Product Description
The nutty flavor of flaxseeds combined with their large content of omega-3 fatty acids makes them a popular addition to diets. While whole flaxseeds feature a soft crunch, the nutrients in ground seeds are more easily absorbed.
Botanical name: Linum usitatissimum L.
These seeds have a high oil content, and although the oil is relatively stable while the seed is intact, refrigeration is recommended to slow the oxidation process and prolong the life of the seed. Raw flax (also known as linseed) seeds contain a cyanogenic glycoside which is toxic if consumed in large quantities (20-30 tablespoons per day). The cyanogenic glycosides are volatile and will readily dissipate when flax is cooked. Flavor - bland, slightly green-grassy taste. Non-irradiated.
- Three 16 oz. bags of whole flax seed

In the hospital they made small pillows filled with flaxseed. They are about 5"x7" with a small pillowcase to cover them. You heat them for 30 seconds in microwave or a little longer if its not hot enough. You place it wherever it feels good and it stays warm for quite a while. We use them daily and he loves them. Just can't burn them or they smell awful. You can then wash the little pillowcases when needed. So they are good for something besides eating them. I use the ground up ones for my bread. I thought this would be helpful for other cancer patients out there or someone that needs warmth without a hot water bottle. This is a great replacement for baked goods needing eggs. You have to work out the amount needed for each recipe. I grind them in a coffee grinder, then add water, then let it sit for a few minutes. One tablespoon of flax seed to three tablespoons of water equals about one egg. Looks kind of funky. If you use to much you will tasted the flax seed. Not a bad taste, just differant. When you get the amout right, no extra taste. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Frontier Flax Seed Whole Certified Organic, 16 Ounce Bags (Pack of 3) (Grocery) Best quality I've purchased yet. Very good value. I'm placing another order today. I particularly like the fact that it comes in three smaller sealed bags to keep it fresh. |
